Six vegan food spots in Tyne and Wear

Tyne and Wear has plenty of amazing food spots with great options for vegans. Even if you are not fully vegan, trying vegan food occasionally is a great thing to do.

 

  1. Sea Change Café

The Sea Change Café located in South Shields has a great vegan breakfast on offer. The breakfast priced at £9.75 is a great value option. The Bombay Cheesa is another option that can be made vegan, priced at £7.95.

Sea Change has been awarded one of the best vegan/vegetarian Social enterprise café and community venues in the North East!

A bit of background to Sea Change is that it is a café and arts venue that provide sustainable employment for people with autism and learning difficulties. Working with AutismAble, a local charity, Sea Change provide training and qualifications that lead to students becoming valued staff – who’ve prepped themselves with the same level of dedication they’ll put into prepping your food.

Found in Sunderland, Good Apple Café is an independent coffee shop and vegetarian and vegan café. They have a range of amazing breakfasts, sandwiches, wraps and salads, as well as coffees and teas.

  1. Café Under The Spire

In the heart of Gateshead is the beautiful Grade 2 listed church building built by John Dobson in 1840, now transformed into a quirky independent café that serves up some great vegan options. From a mighty vegan breakfast served in the morning, to vegan pizzas and burgers at night, there is never a time where Café Under The Spire doesn’t have something. Even on a Sunday there is a delicious nut roast! A highlight is the vegan desserts including lemon sponge cake and cheesecake, priced at just £3.50!

  1. The Carriage and Veganatomy

The Carriage is a cosy pub that serves a fully vegan menu with a wide range of drinks too. It is dog friendly and even has a juke box!

Veganatomy is an Asian fusion spot where the sushi is 100% vegan. Being the first and only fully vegan sushi specialist in Newcastle, it is a must for those wanting to sample some delicious vegan food.

Look out for Veganatomy at The Carriage in Jesmond where they do regular pop ups. The creative food, crafted by Zoë Newman has even bagged praise from Gordon Ramsey himself! It must be worth a try!

In the heart of Newcastle city centre you will discover Vegano. Vegano offers a wide variety of delicious, cruelty free food in a modern and cosy setting.

Whether you’re seeking good quality coffee, and a slice of house made cake or want to tuck into a hearty meal, there is plenty to choose from brunch to evening meals. A 100% vegan restaurant with amazing burgers and kebabs, this one is an unmissable spot.

Also, on a Sunday find them at the Quayside market with a food truck!

  1. Little Piece of Sky

Little Piece of Sky is a vegetarian deli and fish and chip shop. It can be found in Heaton. They offer a range of super takeaway options that include some 100% vegan choices including the Super Sandwich which features hummus, carrot, avocado, vegan mayo, superfood pesto on brown bread, priced at just £4.50.

Something extra special about this spot is that on Friday nights the Little Piece of Sky turns into a veggie chippy serving vegan fish and chips as well as other typical chip shop fayre. Opening at 5pm and frying till 8pm.
