Bikes and scooters on the Shields Ferry
All you need to know about taking bicycles and scooters on the Shields Ferry.
We welcome bikes and cyclists on the Shields Ferry.
Electric bikes (e-bikes) are also allowed on the Shields Ferry – unless they have been modified or are in an unsafe condition.
There is no charge for bikes on Shields Ferry.
Electric scooters are NOT permitted on the Shields Ferry (or Metro stations or trains) at any time.
Under normal circumstances, if a group of cyclists plan to use the ferry together (eg for a charity bike ride), the ferry can accommodate about 16 bikes. Please notify our Customer Relations team in advance, click on this link for contact details
Important note:
For the safety of all of our customers, do not ride your bike on the ferry landings. Dismount your bike at the entrance to the ferry landing, and walk with it along the landing itself and onto the ferry. Do not ride your bike again until you have reached the road or cycle path on the other side of the river.
